SB223 makes it a violation of California State licensing laws to improperly influence a real estate appraiser in the conduct of an appraisal.

If you are a California licensed real estate appraiser and you believe someone has attempted to improperly influence your appraisal, use the California Real Estate & Financial Services Status Check to find out if that person or firm is licensed by a state licensing agency and file complaints as noted below.

• Report California consumer and commercial finance lenders and brokers, and residential mortgage lenders (mortgage bankers) and servicers to the Department of Corporations.
• Report California licensed mortgage brokers and real estate licensees to the Department of Real Estate.
• Report representatives of state chartered banks and credit unions to the Department of Financial Institutions.

You may also report violations to the consumer information and complaint handling offices of the following federal regulatory agencies:

• Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System
• Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
• Office of Thrift Supervision
• National Credit Union Administration
• Office of the Comptroller of the Currency
• U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
